Nocturnes

A nocturne is a piece of music for the night: unhurried, spare and a little melancholy. These photographs aim for the same quality. Mooring posts stand in moonlit water, a lake goes still beneath dark mountains, and candles gather at the foot of a basilica. Little is explained. The eye adjusts, and what’s left is shape, shadow and a small amount of light.
